Why we don’t quote a universal price
The size of the affected area, materials involved, access, contents, and disposal needs can change the scope. A single advertised price cannot tell you what your property needs. This guide does not estimate your job or promise insurance coverage.
Compare the same scope
When comparing providers, ask each one to identify the areas and materials included. An estimate for surface cleaning may not include removal of damaged materials or rebuilding. Ask whether assessment fees, after-hours charges, transport, disposal, and documentation are included.
Five questions to ask
- Is this a fixed quote, an estimate, or an initial assessment fee?
- What work and materials are explicitly included?
- What discoveries could require a change order?
- Who must approve extra work, and how will approval be recorded?
- When is payment due and what happens if an insurer declines a claim?
Before relying on insurance
Ask your insurer whether the specific event and proposed work are covered, whether prior authorization is needed, what deductible applies, and what documents to retain. Do not assume that direct billing by a provider removes your payment obligations.
Keep a simple record
Keep the written estimate, approved changes, invoices, insurer correspondence, and the provider’s completion documents together. Ask before sending sensitive images; avoid putting personal information into public reviews or shared links.
